New Ball Python Owner Questions!?!?
Alright! I'm going to get my new buddy tomorrow (Chief or Holly for the name!) and just want to double check with you guys what you think about my setup. I have:
-- 20 Gallon Long Cage, 40 gallon when older
-- Secure Locking Lid
-- Aspen for bedding
-- Extra Large HEAVY Water Dish
-- Infrared Light in Socket (On all the time)
-- Day Bulb (On for 12 hours to simulate day)
-- Feeding tongs
-- Feeding tank
-- Thermometer (80s) / Hygrometer (40s)
-- 2 Large Hides
I feed 2 small mice every 10 days. Change water daily and keep the infrared on all day and the regular light on 12 hours.
Yeah, I think i will get an UTH and take back the infrared. I will keep the day light on for 12 hours and the UTH on all the time.
i would suggest an untank heating mat they are so much btter than basking lights....good luck ps if u handle it alot when its young u may not even need the tongs..wait 48 hrs after feeding to handle

Basic Omaha Rules That You Must Play by
Omaha poker is a variation of the Texas Hold Em poker game. In some ways the Omaha rules are the same and in other ways they are different. The ways in which the two games are the same are in the ways the cards are dealt. The dealer deals the cards to each player and turns over five cards in the center of the table, which can be used by all players to make a winning combination. After the first round of dealing, the dealer discards the first card on the deck and turns over three cards in the flop. One card is turned over in the Turn and the final card is the River. Just as in Texas Hold em, a round of betting takes place after each of these cards is turned over. Players must also pay a big and small blind to start each hand and this rotates around the table with each player taking a turn.
The main difference between Omaha and Texas Hold em is that in Omaha each player receives four cards to start the round. This is because players can have a high and a low combination of winning cards. They can only use two of the hole cards to make a combination with the community cards turned over by the dealer. In a Fixed Limit game, the raises are limited to the lower amount and in a Pot Limit game the raises are limited to the amount that is in the pot.
The players use two of the hole cards to make a high hand and two of their cards to make a low hand. To qualify for a low hand the cards must be eight or lower and they must be eight of higher for a high hand. Aces can be used in both high and low hands. The winner of the highest hand splits the pot with the winner of the lowest hand. It is possible that the same player could have both winning hands, in which case this person wins the full pot. You have a good chance of winning each way, but the higher your cards are the better chance you have of being the winner.
Some of the terms you need to know to understand the rules of Omaha are:
- Wheel: This refers to a straight consisting of 5, 4, 3, 2, A. It can be played as a straight for either a high or low hand.
- Suited Players Hand: This consists of two cards of the same suit of the player four hole cards.
- Double Suited Players Hand: Two cards of one suit and two cards of another suit.
- Set: Three of a kind made up of two cards in the player hand and one in the community cards
- Nut Hand: This is a low hand that cannot be beat and is sometimes called a lock.
- Fast Play: This is a strategy of betting and raising quickly to try to eliminate as many players as possible.
- Slow Play: This involves checking or calling to keep players in the game with the goal of increasing the amount of the pot.
