Is it really cheaper to buy a brita pitcher, than bottled water?
We tried a pur water filter on our sink and we barely used it, just to make bottles for the baby. It only lasted maybe a month if that, so when we went to buy another filter, it was outrageous. We thought if we had to replace the filter every month then it wouldn't be cheaper, but I'm starting to reconsider, maybe buy a pitcher. Those filters are expensive too, but how long do they last? Is it really cheaper to go that route?
The pitcher filters are good for about 40 gallons of water. That would last me a lot more than a month. And then you don't have to worry about the waste of the plastic bottles from the bottled water.
Also, make sure you are getting bottled water, if that is what you buy, that isn't just out of some municipal tap - just saw an article on that today.

What does tap water contain? This is a question that concerns us all. We cannot live without freshwater. Our least expensive source is the kitchen faucet. Our overall health and well-being could improve by drinking more purified waters, having a trace mineral content. Here are 3 little known facts about your Weight, your Health and your Appearance.
1. What Does Tap Water Contain that Affects Our Ability to LOSE Unwanted Pounds?
If you are concerned about your weight, you have probably been told to drink more water. But, if the waters that you choose to drink contain toxins, then those toxins are working against you.
The liver and kidneys are primarily responsible for removing toxins from the human body. The liver is also responsible for converting fat stores into energy. If it’s too “busy” with toxin removal, it cannot adequately convert fat cells to energy. Your body and your brain respond by sending out hunger signals.
You will have a hard time controlling your appetite and regardless of how little you eat and how hard you work, you will still have trouble burning fat. Reverse osmosis, an expensive home purification step, only “reduces” lead to the federal action level. Ion exchange, a less expensive step, is actually more effective, reducing lead by more than 99%.
